Sanitary protocol in schools: the FCPE would prefer a “massive recruitment of teachers” to “manage physical distancing as well as possible”

Rodrigo Arenas, co-president of the Federation of Student Parents’ Councils (FCPE), believes on franceinfo that it would be “much more effective to test children to reassure teachers in particular.”

“The vaccine does not allow you to be 100% protected against Covid-19. On the other hand, the massive recruitment of teachers would make it possible to organize classes in small numbers and to manage physical distancing as well as possible. ” Here is the counter-proposal to the new health protocol announced by Jean-Michel Blanquer issued this Sunday on franceinfo by the co-president of the Federation of student parents’ councils (FCPE).

>> Mask, vaccination, face-to-face… What we know about the health protocol that will apply in schools at the start of the school year

Not convinced by the effectiveness of a vaccination for 12-17 year olds, Rodrigo Arenas would like children to be more systematically tested. It also asks for an investment plan of “Billions of Euro’s” to buy masks, air purifiers and CO2 sensors.

franceinfo: how do you welcome the announcement from the Minister of National Education who confirms that there will be no compulsory health pass for students, teachers and parents of students?

Rodrigo Arenas: We are rather satisfied with this change in the words of the minister who said the opposite a few days ago. There is no longer any distinction in the school of the Republic between children who are vaccinated and those who are not. If the vaccine is necessary and effective to protect the health of children, then it must be done. But until proven guilty, there is no child who is in Covid long in the hospital. We think that, since there are hundreds of millions of tests that exist in schools, it would be much more effective to test children to reassure teachers in particular rather than to organize the class at home because we know that distance education in France has not worked. On the contrary, it created educational delays.

Is the vaccination campaign announced by Jean-Michel Blanquer for students over 12 from the start of the school year going in the right direction?

We find rather curious, even quite disturbing, this doctrine which would imply that when one is vaccinated, one has a kind of immunity against the vaccine. We must tell our fellow citizens, and especially the parents we represent, that no, the vaccine does not allow us to be 100% protected against Covid-19. On the other hand, the massive recruitment of teachers that we have been asking for several years from National Education would make it possible to organize small classes and manage physical distancing as well as possible. The masks must also be made available by the public authorities, there must be a plan for the sanitary facilities so that the children wash their hands, or even the State taking charge of air purifiers and sensors. CO2.

In middle and high school, only unvaccinated students will need to take home lessons when a case of Covid-19 is detected in their classroom. Does this sound suitable to you?

It’s really hard to understand why there is this differentiation between kindergartens, primary and middle schools, high schools. We understood, moreover, that the Covid was more virulent the older we were. Once again, whether we are kindergarten, elementary, middle or high school, it is above all the barrier gestures that will make it possible to fight effectively against Covid-19. So, yes, let’s invest massively in the school to prevent the epidemic from developing, and encourage adults, especially those with co-morbidities, to get vaccinated. We must get out of this logic whereby we make children bear the responsibility of adults who make adult choices and who are completely respectable and legal, but children do not have to bear the burden of adult decisions.
